On June 30th, 2007, I played in Wills Point, Texas, at the Van Zandt Community Theatre, which presents mostly plays but occasionally a solo performer. There was a small turnout (40), and when I asked the manager why, he said it was all my fault because the text mentioned "folksinger" and no one cares to hear a folksinger. "That word is the kiss of death," he said. Apparently he took the first paragraph off my website, never bothering to read further and see exactly what it is that I do. So I decided to remove the word "folk" from that opening page of the website. Also, in the future, I will make it a point to mail the publicity that I want given to the media. I guess they think that folksingers sing only "Jimmy Crack Corn and I Don't Care." It's ironic that those who came loved my show, and I sold out of CDs.

Last week, LaDonna was trying to separate two of her dogs from a nasty fight, when one of the dogs bit off the tip of her middle, left hand, finger. Home alone and almost in shock, she fashioned a tourniquet on her wrist, wrapped the severed fingertip and her hand in ice and drove herself to Medical City. They sewed the fingertip back on and stitched the palm as well and she is managing quite well. She comes to rehearsal just to keep familiar with the material and hopes to be able to play at Uncle Calvin's on Sept. 15. She is back to barbering, because she can cut hair without using the injured finger. Can you believe this!!!

My visit to California was during the hottest weather in history. We got through it somehow. My next trip to California will be a gig in Carolyn Hester's club LeDansse, which has for years been a home for a folk dance group. But recently Carolyn has started a series of monthly concerts, mostly singer-songwriters. My date is Nov. 18. It's in Los Angeles. I am so excited.

ABOUT UPCOMING SHOW WITH BAND AT UNCLE CALVIN'S ON SEPTEMBER 15TH, 2006
We're pulling out the stops for my September 15th show at Uncle Calvin's. It will probably be my last gig there, since Michael Terry gives local talent a show only every three or four years. Just think, I started playing Uncle Calvin's when it started in 1982. This is quite an anniversary for me. So...I want to fill that place. We have made fans (card stock with a tongue depressor) in every conceivable color for the event. They're really cute...I'll send out postcards, of course. I guess Calvin's does its own promoting. Wish I could get on one of the local talk shows. I'll be trying... Click here for related photo... Leaving Friday for a visit to California to see Sean and his family there. I love seeing my grandkids...

CRAZY FAKE SONGS
I have added a Greek song and a Latin song to my collection of fake foreign songs. I'm thinking they might be my best. That will make a total of ten. I'm thinking of singing one legitimate language song, followed by my crazy fake song. That would make a total of 20 songs, enough for a special program at Pocket Sandwich Theatre all by myself...or maybe I could get Jack Adler to give me a booking at Theatre Too downstairs (Theatre 3). Stone Theatre downtown is another possibility.

MORE PHOTOS
Three new photo pages added to the site: One has a nice pic of the band at a gig in McKinney, Texas, on July 8, 2006. Another has a 1947 newspaper clipping with photo of Lu from little theatre days in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania (her hometown). The other one has a couple of great shots from Lu's 2005 trip to Italy (2005) plus lyrics for a song inspired by her adventures in the land of "La Dolce Vita."
